Thursday's Adventures

The morning came fast after our day of relaxation, but everyone was so thrilled to get back to work. We loaded up the bus and headed to the VBS site. When we pulled up, kids came running to see us, and they greeted us with huge smiles on their faces. Just to see their reactions made everyone even more excited to be with the kids. For about the first hour of VBS, we played with beach balls, bubbles, jump ropes, and the parachute. For the little boys, the best part of their experience was bonding with the youth guys and hanging and a jumping all over them. After the games, the kids sat down for a bible story. Then we made the hardest craft ever- colors of faith picture frames.
After all the fun and games, Angel went around and gave everybody hugs and,for the girls, a kiss on the cheek. It was really touching to see how thankful he was for us to be there. Getting that reaction out of him brightened up my day (Logan). Knowing that we had impacted his life just a little bit made us all realize that being down here in Costa Rica we need to remember our christian purpose as a missionary. Leaving the community center is always hard to do, and seeing the children's sad faces seeing us go just makes it worth while.
Back at the church, lunch was amazing (as always thanks to the women of the church), but it was right back to work. We washed all of the windows in and out of the sanctuary. This made us all come closer together as a youth group and team. Even though not everybody got to do much of the work, we all wanted to pitch in and do something. Whether it was giving people windex, paper towels, ladders, or clean water, everybody wanted to do everything they could. After all the work was done, a few people went to the store and market and got smurf oreo's. They were horrible. Lets just say that blue strawberry frosting and oreo cookies just don't go together.
After that, both teams joined together for a devotion and heard about everyone's day. In the women's group, we were told about a powerful testimony given by one of the women that brought tears to the whole group. The prayer shawls were also given out to each woman, and each were prayed over. In the devotion, we sang and prayed and now we are here. :) We had an awesome day!!!

Goodnight,

  1. I'm glad that you have better memories than eating Smurf Oreos! I know that you love interacting with the kids. The photos are incredible!! But, remember, even though you have more room in your suitcases for the return trip, you can't bring the kids back with you! No stowaways! It's better to leave a part of you and Jesus. . .just sayin'. . . .

"Real wisdom, God's wisdom, begins with a holy life and is characterized by getting along with others. It is gentle and reasonable, overflowing with mercy and blessings, not hot one day and cold the next, not two-faced. You can develop a healthy, robust community that lives right with God and enjoy its results only if you do the hard work of getting along with each other, treating each other with dignity and honor." James 3:17-18
